Novemberfest

The Iowa Chapter held our annual Novemberfest program in the Amanas on November 19, 2010. This is a great program which includes a variety of speakers on timely real estate topics. The most recent program was titled Appraising in 2011 with New Lending Reforms and Regulations. This program included an update on the current residential and commercial market conditions and how the new lending reforms will affect appraisers in the state of Iowa. Four great speakers presented at the program: Andy Warren CFA, CRE – Managing Director, Principal Real Estate Investors; Dale Helling – Vice President of Commercial Lending, Aviva USA; Dave Swenson – Department of Economics, Iowa State University; Daniel Erusha – Manager Residential and Commercial Lending, Guaranty Bank & Trust Company. The program was a great success and was followed by a luncheon, the chapter meeting and installation of the new officers and board members for 2011.

Below are the presentations provided by two of the speakers.

Associate Workshop

The Iowa Chapter held our first Associate Workshop on July 22 in Davenport and July 23 in Des Moines. The workshop was offered at no cost to the chapter members and we had a great turnout. There were breakout sessions for general and residential associates as well as combined sessions. Rick Borges, Vice President Elect of the Appraisal Institute, was the featured speaker. Rick provided an overview of the designation requirements of the Appraisal Institute and updated attendees on current issues impacting the organization including the Financial Reform legislation. Toni Bright, Executive Officer of the Iowa Real Estate Appraiser Examining Board, also provided an excellent presentation on state licensing requirements and current issues impacting licensing.

Several chapter members also provided presentations and panel discussions regarding designation requirements and LDAC. A social event was held after the workshop to allow for continued discussion and networking. The event was a great success and was a free benefit for chapter members.

Below are the presentations provided by Rick Borges regarding designation requirements.
