SEMINAR DESCRIPTION

THE UGLY HOUSE

(How to Recognize and Evaluate)

This program was designed to make it easy to invite real estate agents and other interested professionals to attend. Appraisers often have a unique perspective on design because they see the market’s reaction to what the designer and builder think is perfection…at least it looked that way on paper. This seminar helps real estate professionals recognize classic problems in design, architectural layout, and physical structure. What are the eight fundamentals of UGLY? For a number of years, Craig Harrington taught seminars on the topic of computer-aided design to builders and architects – helping them to visualize their design ideas. The half-day seminar is a non-technical approach that makes it fun for anyone to better understand how to design a more functional home with greater marketability.

COUNTING THE COST

(Creative Techniques for Residential Appraisers)

The Marshall & Swift Residential Cost Handbook is the most popular cost service used by residential appraisers. But, let’s face it – many appraisers are weak in their handling of cost figures. This seminar gets under the hood and fine-tunes the Marshall & Swift engine for greater productivity. It is packed with case studies and puzzlers to help appraisers have greater confidence in their cost analysis and how to use depreciated cost techniques in the market grid. Students learn the basics and then take on more difficult assignments, such as expensive mansions. This is a great seminar for the trainee, associates, or the highly experienced residential appraiser. A normal function calculator is required.
